Solution Research
Once we finalized our problem statement, we moved into solution research. Before thinking of solutions, we researched what kinds of accommodations the ACT has previously used to see which have been successful or unsuccessful. We also researched the kinds of accommodations colleges provide for students with disabilities.
Next, we interviewed four college students who receive accommodations from the Office of Disability Services. We found that testing environment is one of the greatest sources of anxiety for students taking a standardized test, so we aimed to think of solutions that would make the testing environment less stressful.
We also established a few criteria from which we would judge possible solutions. The solution:
-
Must be affordable for testing companies and students
-
Cannot be unnecessarily strenuous or time-consuming
-
Must work within the time constraints of the tests
-
Must be easily implemented
