Concept Selection

The picture above is the result of our brainstorming when we were trying to decide on a concept for our final solution. The sections “material” and “test environment” were created based on the results from a survey given to college students, and "test prep" and "broaden requirements" went along with our initial solution idea.

Our first solution idea was to create a test preparation system that would allow students with testing disabilities to try different testing accommodations to find out which ones work for them. However, this solution was not as plausible with the time frame and materials we have to work with.

We identified another major issue of standardized testing: the majority of people believe that a large testing environment is too stressful. Based on this problem, we came up with the Test Box. We designed a cubicle with three walls to go around the student's desk during test taking. The walls are four feet high, the front wall is three feet wide, and the side walls are four feet long so that they will go slightly behind the student.

This cubicle will eliminate distractions for students with testing disabilities such as ADD and will allow students with testing anxieties to focus on themselves and not what is going on around them. The front wall will have a digital clock so the students will be able to know how much time is left for each section of the test. This solution is easy to implement and very cost-effective.
