Problem Statement
Current standardized tests may not accurately measure college readiness of high school students due to noisy, crowded, distracting testing environments.
-
High school students in Knoxville need to know that there are options available for them to relieve any unecessary stress of a distracting test environment.
-
Enhancing testing environments is an area for innovation because the Tennessee Board of Education, the Tennessee Education Commissioner, and testing companies have been working to change standardized testing in general for years, and even after many tries they have gotten nowhere.
-
The NAE Grand Challenge this problem pertains to is “Advance Personalized Learning.” This challenge, as described by the National Academy of Engineering is “instruction tailored to a student’s individual preferences, and the complexity of each human brain, developing teaching methods that optimize learning will require engineering solutions of the future” (NAE).
"An excellent education is an entitlement for every child in the state of Tennessee"
- Education Commissioner Peggy Schwinn
